ExpandIt User Manual
Installation
- Visit the Chrome Web Store
- Search for "ExpandIt"
- Click Add to Browser and confirm the permissions
- The extension is active immediately — no additional setup required
Using ExpandIt
- Open any webpage with horizontally overflowing content (e.g. code blocks, wide tables)
- ExpandIt automatically detects overflowing elements and shows a small expand button near each one
- Click the button to expand that element using the currently selected mode
- Click again to restore the original layout
Choosing an Expand Mode
Click the toolbar icon to open the ExpandIt popup settings page:
- Expand Area — Recommended for code blocks and monospaced content
- Shrink Font — Recommended when you want to preserve the page layout while fitting the content
- Balanced — A general-purpose default for mixed content
Site Management
In the popup settings page, you can:
- Disable on this site — Add the current domain to the blocklist
- Enable on selected sites only — Switch to allowlist mode and add domains
Troubleshooting
Expand button not appearing
- ExpandIt only shows the button for elements that have actual horizontal overflow
- Make sure the current site has not been disabled in the popup settings
Content still overflows after expanding
- Try switching to a different expand mode
- Some elements have CSS constraints that limit further expansion
